Singapore Project: The Revival of Computers
Problem
A preschool centre in Singapore experienced slow performance in their computers. Teachers and children could hardly use it because of present virii. Moreover, the computers only had a short memory capacity. These made the computers ran slowly and performed below expected.
Action
- Virus removal. More than 1000 virii were present in the old computers.
- Memory upgrade. From 265MB, the memory was upgraded to 1GB to make it perform better.
- Edubuntu installation. Edubuntu was installed as it had educational packages that would benefit the children even without access to internet.
Result
Children enhancing their Numeracy skills through Tux Math
- Fast computers and better performance
- Engaged children in learning
- Improved teaching-learning resources
- Sustainable and free from virii
Masbate (Philippines) Project: Computer Upgrade
Problem
A secondary school in Masbate, Philippines has more than 20 computers. It is powered by Linux. However, it needs to be kept up-to-date.
Action
- Update Edubuntu. Update Edubuntu to its newest version
Result
- More educational applications were added
To make the project sustainable, the contributors are available for consultation via phone or email. Assessment is to be conducted every year to monitor the progress and result of the project implementation.
